1949 Besson 408 (Alex 103 Copy)German Democratic Republic Double French Horn
Up For Your Consideration Is what is believed to be a Besson 408 (Alexander 103 Copy) Double French Horn. Before I say anymore, please note my disclaimer that I do not know anything for sure about this horn. I do have the serial number listed, which I believe to be 245802. The serial number is posted on the lead pipe with what I believe to read "German Democratic Republic". If I were to base the serial number based on London Serial numbers and information posted on Hornacopia, this horn was made some time between 1949 - 1950 in Germany. I have taken several pictures of the bell engraving in which I believe to be stamped Besson. I do appreciate any information anyone is willing to share in the comment section for this particular horn.
The previous owner spent over 2 thousand dollars having this horn re-stored. The horn is in very good cosmetic shape and is also unbelievable player. The finish on the horn is very respectable and limited to some minor dings, dents, surface scratches, and other signs of character. Please check out the pictures for further clarification of condition. This horn is a solid with horn with it's nostalgic German Brass! All of the braces are secure! The bell is thick and solid! The lead pipe is in good condition! The valves are fast and responsive with good compression. The valves on this horn are nice and tight. I did get a chance to hear the horn play and it was a very good player. The horn comes with a Reynolds case that has 3 functioning latches. This horn is priced to sell at $2450 with Free Shipping in the Lower 48 States. If you are not happy with your purchase for any reason, all sales come with a 10 day no fuss return policy. You do not see these horns for sale very often in the United States, Get this one before it's gone!
