Conn 8D Elkhart Indiana 800K Series Custom Double French Horn W/Patterson Lead Pipe (Free Postage Lower 48 States)
Up for your consideration is a Custom Elkhart Indiana 800K Series Conn 8D Double French Horn with Patterson Lead Pipe and Chuck Ward Valve Job! THIS HORN HAS PERFECT VALVE COMPRESSION! I recently did a valve compression test on all the valves and the valves had compression readings of 0. Chuck Ward did some amazing work on these valves! If you are considering buying a new Conn, Holton, or Yamaha Double French Horn for 7K, you might want to consider buying this beautiful horn that is an amazing player, and lower than the price of a new horn. I currently have this horn on consignment with the 4th owner of this horn. This horn has been professional played and professional maintained by some of the best French Horn Specialist around. Here is a brief history of the horn's professional maintenance.
Screw bell (bell has had repair work but still in very decent shape, also comes with N series flare in excellent shape) cut by James Baker, Custom Brass, Alabama.
Patterson Lead pipe installed May 2025 by Kevin Bowen of North Georgia Hornworks.
Valves rebuilt by Chuck Ward in Oct 2024.
The horn has recently had an ultrasonic cleaning.
The serial number dates the horn to 1960 when the metal they used to make French Horns was really special! I do not know if Conn did something different with the metal when they made this horn, because this horn has a different look to it! In some of the pictures, the horn almost looks like it is yellow brass; the horn does have a slight yellow brass tint to it. The tail looks amazing with a very nice Conn Elkhart engraving! The inside tubing is in wonderful condition. The bell illustrated on the horn in the pictures is the original bell flare which does have some scarring. This horn also comes with a Bell From an Elkhart N Series 8D. Both bells screw on very smoothly. The horn has two Amato water keys and a duckfoot. The horn also comes with a very nice Protec Detachable Bell Case.
This horn recently came out of the shop and was given an inspection; all of the braces are secure, all of the tuning slides and valves caps move freely, and the valves are fast, quiet, and responsive with perfect compression. The serial number is posted for your review. This horn not only looks amazing for its age! THIS HORN IS A PLAYER!
