Up For your consideration is a Lawson Descant Horn!  Never in my 10 years of selling French Horns have I ever felt so much pressure writing an item description for a French Horn.  Often times potential buyers will ask me for the provenance of the horns I am selling.  I do my best to give my customers the often cool stories associated with a horn, but never have I had a task of trying to describe the provenance of a Lawson Horn.  Please accept my apologies in advance for not being able to describe the passion that went into every Lawson horn that was ever produced.  I encourage any potential buyers to join the Facebook group "Horn People" and look for the recent post that shares many wonderful stories about Walter Lawson and the Lawson Family.

There will never be another custom horn maker like Walther Lawson and that is a fact.  I was told that the only part of a Lawson horn that was not hand made was the screws.  Unlike the modern day horn makers, Walter Lawson did not source out parts; he made the entire horn with his bare hands.  Lawson was the first horn maker that was using scientific. data-driven acoustic research to inform how they built their instrument, what metal alloys they used.  This horn was played in a professional orchestra and has been professionally maintained by world class repair techs.   This horn is currently on consignment, as I was graciously given the horn to sell by a former player of the Minnesota Orchestra and Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra named Herb Winslow.  THIS IS A PROFESSIONAL HORN THAT WAS PLAYED BY AN INCREDIBLE PLAYER FOR MANY YEARS!   The horn was made in 1994 and is model number 8211.  I was told that Walter made two different model Descant horns with the smaller version being the Classical model.  This particular horn is the larger Descant model.  The former owner had pride of ownership and it shows.  The horn was professionally maintained over the years and is in excellent condition.  The horn is made out of Ambronze, and is on the heavier side.  I have taken many pictures in an attempt to capture the beauty of this horn because I do not believe words could possibly describe how awesome this horn truly is.  The current owner of the horn told me that Walt designed the horn to have the ease of playing a Descant without sounding like a Decant.  The horn is in excellent condition with  minor lacquer wear.  There may be a small ding, dent, surface scratch, or other signs of character.   There is a patch on the bell that was done by Walter Lawson.  The most notable wear of the horn being on the lead pipe where there was a hand guard strap attached to it.  The wear on the lead pipe is cosmetic and does not affect the playability of the horn.  Please check out the pictures for further clarification of condition.

How does the horn play?  The sound is absolutely dynamic.  I recently took this horn to IHS and hope to have some comments and feedback on the playability horn to add to my description very soon.  Everyone that I encountered at IHS was blown away after playing this horn.  The horn is priced to sell at $10,500 with Free postage in the lower 48 states.  I do offer free postage, but charge $25 dollars for the box, bubble wrap, and packing peanuts necessary to ship the horn safely. I offer a 10 day no fuss return policy that is outlined below. Please read the return policy before making a purchase.
